Sonoma Adds Two New Coaches

Rohnert Park, CA – Sonoma State Lacrosse welcomes two new coaches to the staff.  Taylor Cook and Steve Johnson.  Taylor joins Sonoma State as Offensive Coordinator after stints at Huntington Beach, St. Mary’s College of MD, and US Naval Academy.  Steve Johnson joins Sonoma State after most recently coaching at the Santa Rosa Junior College in 2015.

Coach Cook will serve as offensive coordinator in 2017 season.  As a player Coach Cook attended St. Mary’s Ryken high school in Maryland before heading to the US Naval Academy.  After a two year stint at the Naval Academy, Coach Cook transferred to St. Mary’s College of Maryland where he received all-league honors.  After graduation, he spent time coaching at US Naval Academy and then St. Mary’s College of Maryland.  In 2016 he moved to California and coached at Huntington Beach HS before joining Sonoma State.

Coach Johnson joins the staff as Defensive Coordinator.  He graduated from Poway HS in 1995 earning All-American honors there before coming to Sonoma State.  After two years, Coach Johnson took some time off but stay involved with the game coaching MCLA Division II champions University of San Diego in 2006.  In 2007 Johnson returned to Sonoma State to finish his playing career.

“We are excited to bring both coaches on board.  They are both hard nosed style coaches who will continue to excellent Blue Collar tradition here at Sonoma State. ” said Head Coach Panchito Ojeda.  “Our staff has improved and will help us better prepare our team for a deep run into the WCLL & MCLA playoffs.”
