Rohnert Park, CA – The Sonoma State Seawolves nabbed wins over Utah Valley (12-9) and San Diego State (13-7) over the weekend. The two games featured 8 different goal scorers with an impressive 67% save percentage by freshman goalie Jackson Feinstein.
On Saturday, Dominican University hosted Utah Valley v. Sonoma State. The Seawolves started a little slow as UVU was able to get out to a 1-0 lead, but the Seawolves came roaring back ending the 1st quarter with a 5-2 lead. They continued that into the second quarter extending the lead to 7-2. However, Utah Valley continued to fight and the teams traded goals as the game finished 12-9 in favor of the Seawolves. The Seawolves were led on offense by Brent Tovrea (1G, 4A) and Spencer O’Reilly (3G, 2A). Goaltender Jackson Feinstein made 18 saves in the win.
On Sunday, the Seawolves welcomed the Aztecs to campus. The first half was a back and forth affair with both teams taking advantages of the other team’s mistakes. Sonoma went into halftime leading 5-4. The third quarter the Seawolves separated jumping out to a 8-5 lead and they never looked back, outscoring the Aztecs 8-3 in the second half. The final score was 13-7 and the Seawolves were led on offense by Brent Tovrea (3G, 1A) and Angelo Lagomarsino (2G, 2A). Goaltender Jackson Feinstein made 14 saves in the win.
“We played blue collar lacrosse this weekend.” stated Head Coach Panchito Ojeda. “We are an extremely young team and it is great to see these young men working hard to do the little things right. Our defensive unit gave a superb effort. Our boys played with exceptional toughness and energy we can all be proud of. Now we must prepare for Florida and Michigan State coming to town next week.”
